General Finishes, Blue Moon paint, paired with a lighter stain make a big change from the dated original dark oak finish in this Table and Chairs Makeover.
This table came to me in need of refinishing. The finish on the table top and chair seats was worn. My plan was to strip, sand and refinish the table top and chair seats in a lighter stain and paint the rest with GF Blue Moon.
Using TSP I washed all surfaces, paying special attention to the table top. I’ve found that in older pieces it can be a problem for oils to have penetrated into the wood which can cause a new finish to fail.
For this Blue Moon Makeover I sanded the table and chairs to prepare them for two coats of GF Blue Moon Milk Paint.
The table top and chair seats were sanded to 220 grit paper and stained with GF Colonel Maple Gel stain.
Supplies Used
80, 120, 220 sand paper
TSP for cleaning
GF Blue Moon Milk paint
GF Colonel Maple Gel stain
GF High Performance Satin
GF Flat out Flat
The chair seats and table top received 3 coats of GF High Performance satin. All parts painted with GF Blue Moon received 2 coats of GF Flat out Flat. This leaves the Blue Moon with the look of a chalk paint but with extra durability in the finish.
This Blue Moon Makeover has not only given this table and chairs many more years of use, it has brought it out of the 1970’s in a style that will fit well with todays decorating trends.
Its exciting to think of the gatherings people will have around this table for years to come.
