Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions I receive.

Why should I consider refinishing my furniture?

  1. Update an ugly duckling so that if fits in with your decor.
  2. Refresh a piece that you love to like new condition.
  3. Restore a broken piece that has sentimental value so that it is functional again.
  4. Keep an item of quality solid wood when the cost of replacing it with similar quality is too high.

Why should I use Second Finishes for my project?

You may think that beauty is only in the top layer of paint, but it truly begins underneath with the preparation for a beautiful and lasting finish. Second Finishes will evaluate the current condition and necessary preparation to finish your furniture using only quality modern finishes. A few of the products used are: General Finishes Paints, Fusion Mineral Paints, Dixie Belle Paints, and Annie Sloan Chalk Paints and waxes.

What processes do you use?

The estimate for your project includes labor, supplies and involves several steps to completion.

  • Prep work (i.e. cleaning, sanding, wood filling and minor repairs)
  • Paint Stripping (if necessary)
  • Priming (depending on wood type and final finish desired)
  • Painting and/or Staining
  • Creative Detailing (i.e. distressing, gilding, glazing, and/or waxing if desired)
  • Protective Topcoat

How long does a project typically take?

The average time for a project to be completed is 2 to 3 weeks.

Are there any pieces you do not accept?

Extra large, oversized pieces such as hutches, large armoires, and bookcases are not a good fit for my studio and in most cases will not be accepted.

My studio is unable to work with lead paint. If an older piece has been previously painted and lead paint is suspected, the refinishing option may be to paint over the existing finish as long as it is in good condition without heavy chipping or peeling.

How much should I expect a project to cost?

The cost varies based on size, existing finishes, repairs needed, and desired refinish process. Any needed repairs to the structure of the piece will be quoted before work is done. An estimate will include prep, sanding, primer, paint, stain, and topcoat. Please contact me with a description of your project and I will be glad to give you an estimate.

Do you ship?

I’m located in Monument, CO and do not ship at this time. The customer is responsible for dropping off and picking up furniture at prearranged times, unless otherwise discussed and quoted.
