I found this very simple cabinet and wanted to make it into a small coffee bar/buffet but it was too short. The shorter height made it look and feel like it was missing feet.
For this project I turned the cabinet upside down to work on adding an additional base to it. So in the pictures to follow remember that you are looking at the cabinet upside down.
You can see that the base of this cabinet is just a simple wall baseboard so I began by adding a 1″x 3″ board that will help support the new base that I will add.
These boards were attached with glue and nails to the base of the original cabinet bottom.
Using a 1″x6″ board I drew the shapes that I wanted for the front and side “feet” extensions. Using a jigsaw I cut the pieces and sanded them before drilling pocket holes in them to attach to the new base already on the cabinet. The next picture will show this step in better detail.
Using glue and pocket screws I attached the shaped base with “feet” to the cabinet. As this picture shows I did add some additional corner blocks for bracing that were glued and nailed into place.
The additional 4″ that this new base adds to the cabinet brings it up to counter height and makes it perfect for a coffee bar.
