This well built oak buffet was dated but with a few simple updates and a change of color it would get a whole new life.
For this update the two main changes I will be making are to refinish the top in Antique Walnut and remove the center door to make an open shelf space.
Supplies Used
- TSP
- General Finishes Gel Stain Antique WalnutFusion Mineral Paint Bayberry
- Fusion Antiquing Glaze
- General Finishes High Performance Satin
The entire piece was washed with TSP, then lightly scuff sanded to cut the gloss of the original finish. Then the cabinet and doors were painted in a soft green, allowing some of the original wood finish to peak through the paint. This will add texture and an additional color variation to the final finish.
Antiquing with a brown glaze toned down the green and brought out some of the details of the wood. It is amazing how much richer the green color became after applying the antiquing glaze. with a clear coat of satin the restyle is complete. What a dramatic change this made from orange oak to fabulous antiqued green!
